The mode begins with a time limit of a minute, but scoring points increases the timer. The goal of Time Attack Mode – which will replace 100 Coin Missions – is to score as many points as possible within the time limit by collecting Coins, Power Stars, and defeating enemies. ![]() In Classic Mode – which is based on the playthrough nature of Super Mario Odyssey – collecting Power Stars won't return Mario to the hub world. Also, in some courses, some Power Stars present in Classic Mode will be collectable in this mode. Collecting the Introduction Power Star will return Mario to the hub world, but collecting any other Power Stars along the mission won't. Introduction Mode will introduce the player to the course with the background, course model, weather, and certain objects being exclusive to this mode. SKELUX won't feature Green Comet Mode in each course on release but might add it in updates. There will be five brand-new modes for each main course. The Double Cherry from Super Mario 3D World will act the same as in its original game. The Rainbow Star will replace the Metal Cap. The Rainbow Star from the Super Mario Galaxy Series will act the same as in its original series, and also include the ability to run on water – similarly to Luigi's same ability from Super Mario 64 DS. The brand-new Vanish Mushroom will turn Mario transparent – similarly to the Vanish Cap, which the Vanish Mushroom will replace. As a result, SKELUX said he is looking into replacing the Wing Feather with the Red Star from Super Mario Galaxy to make this ability look more natural. However, if Mario collected a Wing Feather without his cap – considering he might not begin the game with it – he would look strange because he would be sprouting wings from his head. The Wing Feather from Super Mario 64 DS will act the same as in its original game, and it will replace the Wing Cap.
